Our commitment to the environment: using as few resources as possible, recycling almost everything and making eco-friendly printing the standard – not an optional extra.

Our philosophy

Fewer resources means less waste.

Nettl of York works well because we use as few resources as we can – and the fewer resources we use, the less waste we produce.

Our production teams are rewarded for finding new ways to cut waste, and we always welcome ideas from the team for working more efficiently. Here's what that looks like day to day.

How we keep our printing green

Waste paper recycled

Any unavoidable waste paper is compacted and recycled.

Responsible paper

All our paper and card comes from recycled or sustainable sources.

17 recycling streams

All waste is separated into seventeen different streams for recycling or reprocessing.

Vegetable-based inks

Our ink is vegetable based and pumped straight from drums – no piles of small cartridges.

Plates recycled

Every printing plate we use is recycled.

Chemicals handled safely

All used chemicals are disposed of responsibly.

Biodegradable lamination

All the lamination we use is 100% biodegradable.

Less energy

Energy use is carefully regulated and kept to a minimum.

Biodegradable laminate

Since August 2018

Lamination that disappears – not the planet

After watching David Attenborough's Blue Planet II, we switched all of our matt and gloss laminated print to biodegradable laminate.

Our bio-laminate breaks down after use – within two years it's gone, leaving zero contaminants in the earth. So you can have the print you love and know you're doing your bit for the environment.

  2. Use only paper and card from recycled or sustainable forestry sources
  3. Assess and manage the significant environmental impacts of what we do
  4. Monitor and minimise waste, and reuse and recycle wherever we can
  5. Invest in modern technology to cut energy and water use
  6. Work with our suppliers to reduce their environmental impact too
  7. Make sure everyone on the team understands their environmental responsibilities
  8. Set environmental improvement targets every year
  9. Keep reviewing and improving how we work
